Today Ukraine is an independent nation. It gained independence from the former Soviet Union in 1991. There are more than 110 different nationalities living in Ukraine, which is located in the central part of Europe and bordered by Poland, the Slovak Republic, Hungary, Romania and Russia.

These are the average high and low temperatures in Kiev for the months of June, July and August:

June      73/54°F
July        75/56°F
August  74/54°F

The Ukrainian Institute of Arts and Sciences buildings formerly served as a communist youth ideological training and retreat center. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the property was abandoned. The campus was able to be purchased with funds provided mainly from church members of the Southwestern Union of Seventh-day Adventists in the United States and the Canadian Union of Seventh-day Adventists in Canada.

The official opening of the college took place in October 1999. The Institute is located 15 miles west of Kiev at Lisova Bucha. The campus consists of 35 acres of forested land with eight main buildings: 4 dormitories, and administration building, a main auditorium with 600 seats, a cafeteria building, a store, and a small medical center. The Institute also owns a small building occupied by a furniture factory.

UCAS is a mission-oriented college offering four year undergraduate degrees and Master's degrees. Emphases are in English, Business Management, Economics and Pastoral Ministry. The Institute has received accreditation from the Ukrainian Government and the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

The school offers a great variety of dishes popular in different regions of the country. American dishes will also be available to those who need familiar food. Bread is provided from the campus bakery.

Numerous historic museums (61 in Kiev alone) cover a broad spectrum of the history of the Slavic nation, allowing visitors a chance to feel the spirit of Ukraine's dramatic and interesting past. Those interested in architecture can visit the marvelous churches and cathedrals such as St. Sophia Cathedral, Kiev-Pechersk Lavra and Monastery, or step into history by visiting the church catacombs in Chernigiv. This immersion in Russian history and culture creates a natural atmosphere for learning the Russian Language. The students will also be able to go to Odessa and Crimea peninsula that is one of the most beautiful places in Ukraine. It's also possible to visit Moscow and St. Petersburg that are the most famous cities of Russia.

How to get to the campus
Students can travel to the Kiev Borispol International Airport directly from countries outside of Ukraine. A Notice of Arrival Form is available online and it should be completed at least one week in advance if transportation from the airport is needed. Students may call the campus from Borispol Airport at 04497-97525. Please e-mail or fax the information to the ACA director at the school. See page 7. Citizens of US, Canada, japan, European Union Countries, Norway, Monaco, San Marino, Andorra, Iceland, Swiss Confederation and Liechtenstein, DO NOT require a visa for up to 90 days stay. However, you will need a valid passport that will cover 3 months more than your stay abroad.

The Summer program

Classes are offered during the mornings from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. During the afternoons, students can study, engage in recreational activities or visit local museums and cultural sites. Students will attend worship each morning and church services in Russian with and English translation offered. Students can also visit Moscow (Russia) for a small fee.
